Psychotherapeutic Reiki

What is Psychotherapeutic Reiki?

Psychotherapeutic Reiki is a compassionate, integrative healing approach that weaves together the gentle touch-based practice of Reiki with the depth and structure of psychotherapy. Rather than treating the mind and body as separate concerns, this modality invites them into conversation, allowing emotional and psychological insights to surface alongside the physical sense of relaxation and balance that Reiki cultivates.

In a session, I will work fluidly across both dimensions: the relational, reflective space of therapeutic dialogue and the quiet, grounded presence of Reiki touch. What emerges is a deeply personalised experience in which emotional processing and somatic awareness support one another. A feeling held in the body might open into a thought, a memory, or a new understanding, and therapeutic conversation can, in turn, soften what's been held in the body for years.

This approach is particularly meaningful for those who find that words alone don't quite reach what they're carrying, or who feel drawn to a more holistic path toward healing.

Benefits of Psychotherapeutic Reiki

🌿Emotional release and integration - the combined modality creates conditions for emotions that have been difficult to access through talk therapy alone to surface gently and be held with care.

🌿 Reduced anxiety and stress - the calming, regulated state fostered through Reiki complements psychotherapeutic work, making it easier to explore difficult material without becoming overwhelmed.

🌿 Deepened self awareness - clients often report a heightened connection to their inner landscape, noticing physical sensations, emotions, and thought patterns with greater clarity and compassion.

🌿Support for trauma healing - the somatic dimension of Reiki, held within a safe therapeutic relationship, can be especially supportive for those working through trauma, offering a non-verbal pathway to healing that respects the body's own pace.

🌿 Greater mind-body connection - Over time, clients develop a more integrated sense of themselves, recognising how psychological and physical wellbeing are deeply intertwined.

🌿 Increased resilience and inner resources - the combination of therapeutic reflection and the calming, centring nature of Reiki can help build lasting capacity for self-regulation and emotional resilience.

🌿 A sense of truly being held  - perhaps most simply, Psychotherapeutic Reiki offers a rare quality of presence, where the whole person is welcomed, not just the presenting concern.

"I wasn't sure what to expect, after doing 3 years of talk therapy. Carmela really listened, and I found myself opening up about things I'd buried deep. My nightmares stopped, I handle conflict better at work, and I finally feel like myself again after years of struggling."
